"New" Classics Found in Every Parisienne's Wardrobe

                Fall/winter '09 new classic must-have's
                                   straight from France!

(hey, it wasn't only vacation! Once a stylist, always a stylist!)

While spending a wonderful month in Europe and most of my holiday in France, I reveled in the time I was able to spend observing the latest fashions popping up in every Parisian boutique for la rentrée! I spent countless hours researching, talking with boutique owners, beautiful Parisiennes, fashionistas from all over the world as well as enjoying my afternoon gouté with my head in the latest French fashion magazines.

Here is a sneak peak into the Parisian's closet, or garde robe as it is labeled in French.

*** The Little Black Dress
When in Rome! (or Paris in this case. We know that Parisians love their black) The fall/winter '09 runway show from Christian Lacroix was perhaps the last from this great couture house. The designer used scraps of left over fabric from prior years to create his looks for this line; and it just so happened to be lots of black and rich, dark blues.
An LBD with an asymmetrical shoulder line bring this fashion favorite up to date for the coming season. Be sure to don yours with a pair of long black gloves. Sexy, mysterious and oh so chic!!

Lanvin                                                                                                   Giorgio Armani

 Trend Alert: Heavily embroidered shoulders!

*** The Marinière
This once upon a time style for sailors only, has become the epitome of French chic thanks to Coco Chanel. This year Balmain brings it into the new millennium by adding over-emphasized shoulders and sequins.

Balmain                                                                                             Sandro - a more casual and budget friendly option

*** The ever-classic trench coat
This classic, for the demi-seasons, is in full swing this fall! Modern touches have been added by JPG and YSL to change the look a bit but the foundation of this great wardrobe must-have remain the same. Jean Paul Gaultier designed a beautiful, shiny satin version while YSL created a black, leather trench, combining 2 of the most popular types of jackets: moto and trench.

*** Ballerina flats
One of French womens favorites! They own then in all brands (preferring of course Repetto and Chanel), colors and materials. They wear them year round and with ANYTHING! Let's take a lesson from these timeless ladies and glide our own feet into a few different pairs this fall/winter.

Repetto

*** The Bibi
Designers are looking to resuscitate this old-fashioned fancy to enhance feminine beauty and grace this fall/winter. The Bibi is no longer confined to weddings and horse races only! Bienvenue to tastefully sexy accessories.

*** An amazing, high quality handbag that goes with everything
You have heard me talk about this time and time again. It is true! Splurge more on the never-out-of-style, classic accessories and 5 years from now you won't be thinking about the paycheck you spent on your favorite handbag, you'll be thinking about how wonderful it has been to have a high quality, trusty pal to keep all your precious cargo in check and safe.

Chloé                                                                                                            Lanvin

*** Black patent leather stilettos
Of course they don't have to be this ridiculously high (or pricey like these Gucci's)but some heel height really changes the appearance of your silhouette. Be sure to include these in your fall/winter shoe rotation.

Gucci

*** and of course a bike!!
Whether your is couture chic, a laid back beach style cruiser, or a street savvy roadster be sure to swing by your favorite bakery or local farmers market and ride away into the sunset feeling very French. Just one word of caution: Faire Attention! Riding bikes in Paris can be fatal!

      HI Miss Kris,
I love everything about French women's closets and wardrobe choices. It was so fun to see different French friends get ready, how they did, what they chose, etc. A delightful experience!
Oh, the Laduree macarons were so tasty, although now that I am back I realized I didn't eat enough while I was there!
