Paris Packing Tips ~ Perfect for a Late Summer Exploration of the City of Light

Bonjour!

Let's not kid around here, my trip was certainly for pleasure however it was also prime time for me to get some work done while spending time in the fashion capital of the world! A bit of research, many conversations with fashionistas all over Paris, chatting it up with boutique owners everywhere about what's to come this fall/winter along with how the economy worldwide has and is effecting fashion. Honestly, as a stylist, I am never "off the clock". Researching the latest French & European trends is hard work but someone has to do it!! My head is always spinning with new ideas, my mind conjuring up fresh looks or the absolute minimum... observing what is "à la mode" à Paris. Once I arrive back home, I figure out how I can spin what I saw it in a few different ways to work for my American clients of all ages and body shapes.

Be sure to have the items below in your suitcase upon arrival. Or for more fun save a few must-have's and purchase them on your 1st day in Paris! Your look can't help but be "Euro-fied" if you buy some wardrobe staples during your French excursion.

Must-Pack List for your summertime visit to the City of Light:
*** 3 Light weight scarves

*** Hermès type silk scarves to dress up a casual outfit

*** Linen pieces ~ Perfect for men & women! Wearing them wrinkled is perfectly acceptable plus they are easy to wash & quick try dry if you are in a bind while traveling!

The Diva did it perfectly! Cute, casual brown linen dress amp'd up with one gorgeous Hermès scarf!

* 1 Summer dress for daytime or a warm evening

* 1 Light weight cardigan ~ Handy 24 hours a day, not to mention on the chilly plane or train rides!

* White jeans

Loving my new white jeans from Natalys!
An old friend of mine and I were enjoying a stroll through the gardens behind
Sacré-Coeur before hitting the fabric district, Marché St. Pierre.

* 2 Longchamp bags in different sizes. I have a deep seeded love for these bags, I own multiple sizes in almost every color of the rainbow! They aren't the most prestigious handbag however their functionality, durability and "wash-ability" make it worth owning quite a few! Plus most styles of the "Pliage" fold down to practically nothing.

Just a few ideas of how to use your canvas "pliage" Longchamp bag:
- Weekend Bag
- Market/Shopping Bag
- Carry-on Bag

- Diaper Bag - I would recommend a different style than below. You can find all styles on the Longchamp website. I purchased a black one that will fit nicely over the stroller handles. You might be wondering... black, for a baby girl! One, it goes with anything. Two, I can make it girlie by tying a pink scarf to the outside handle. Three, it won't show stains as easily plus I can wash it!
- Extra check-in bag when you purchase too many fabulous French finds!
- The perfect, casual everyday handbag or tote.

* Sunglasses, of course!

* 1 Pair of ballerina flats

* 1 Pair of high-heeled sandals

* 1 Pair of Euro-type tennies or cute and comfy sandals for walking all day

Trust me, you don't need much! I was really hard on myself packing for this trip and didn't take much yet I still overpacked!

While you are abroad, be sure to pick up a few fun accessories, a pair of shoes and at least one delicious perfume for yourself! The gorgeous window displays are always full of the most beautiful and extremely tempting wardrobe add-on's! The French really are known for their attention to detail and I think it is something they have greatly mastered.

Vive la France,
Kelli

Ah, summer in France; nothing tops that!

    Hey Wait - I think I recognize myself in one of those pictures!! You delighted me with your kind words about my favorite summer outfit!!! Merci, and I loved shopping Berlin with you getting so many tips and hints on what to wear and how to wear them! I'm still thinking about that winter sweater we saw... with the warmest day of the summer creaping up on Germany this Thursday it's difficult to think about buying winter clothes, but nevertheless I'm still dreaming of that gorgeous gray color and thinking of how you taught me to wear a color I didn't think I could wear!
    Best,

    Wonderful packing tips - I always pack way too much! But I think I will the the white jeans to you and the Diva. With me they would be dirty before I walked out of the dressing room door!

      VC,
      I was a little leery of me wearing white jeans but surprisingly enough I have done well. Being a little clumsier than usual I have to pay extra special attention to not trip or spill on myself... so far, so good!

      Yes, we are both busy as ever trying to prepare for the unknown! 3 months to go!
      Also, yes, France and Berlin were exactly what the Dr. ordered. It was so great to be back in France surrounded by chic women, fabulous fashion and minds that aren't so tempted by consumerism... they are still focusing on the classics!

      Thank you Fifi!

      What to know a little secret... I put on as much weight during my month in France as I did the whole first 5 months of my pregnancy!
      I have to say I also walked A TON while I was there, so that would have been very scary had I not been walking and enjoying all those French delicacies!

      Hi Mimi,

      I am doing well, thank you! I miss France horribly already; it's crazy how much you can love a place yet not quite feel like living there (again).
      I am 28 weeks, so starting the home stretch. I came home from my trip in full purge-organize-clean mode. Guess I have to dive in while I can still move, twist and bend... even if just a little!

      Sounds like you have been having some fun too! That's great! How are wedding plans coming along?

      Have a fab weekend, xo,
      Kelli
