The Belle of the Ball

As millions did all around the world, I sat fixed on my TV last night for over 4 hours. Thank goodness for HD! So many of the stars looked ravishing and since there are just too many "best dressed" gowns to review today, I thought I would include a few of my favorite bling choices along with a few of my favorite gowns. Even though we are in a recession, les bijoux stood out to me even more this year, than in the past. The jewels were bold, big and absolutely stunning!

Truly the Belle of the Ball and my favorite gown of the evening!
Penélope fell in love with this vintage Balmain 8 years ago. I am elated the gown was still waiting for her almost a decade later, she looked ravishing!

Anne looked brilliant in Armani Privé. And her voice... head to Broadway Anne!

Kate Winslet is one of my all time favorite stars! She is always beautiful, extremely gracious, sweet, ridiculously talented and just a doll. Last night she graced us with a bit of old Hollywood glamour in a gray and black YSL Atelier gown {this photo does not do it justice at all!}.
I was in tears as prior Oscar winners spoke words of praise to each individual Oscar nominee and Marion Cotillard stole the stage in her Haute Couture Dior ball gown.

Now on to a few of my favorite jewels from the Oscars 2009:

Angelina donned enormous emeralds by Lorraine Schwartz. Gorgeous!
But for the rest of her look, sadly, it was a bit boring.

Amy shined in this chunky colored gemstone and diamond bib from the 1950s by Fred Leighton.
If I had a necklace like this one, I would wear it every day! With a white tee, a dress and of course jeans! J'adore!
Oh yes, and who said red heads shouldn't wear red? She looks AMAZING!

Taraji was glowing and her gorgeously over sized 19th-century diamond flower necklace by Fred Leighton helped her rock this star-studded look all night long!

Until next time...
Embrace the star that you are, wear a dress this week and enjoy the femininity and beauty you will exude.

Kelli

Since I don't often have the opportunity to dress like a star, here is one of my favorite photos from our Trash the Dress shoot last August.

    Found you on SITS.

1st. I loved your Oscar review. I sat down with my daughter and we watched the red carpet together for the first time. Come over and see what she had to say.

2nd. Trash the dress is awesome. They didn't have this 100 years ago when I got married - but totally cool idea and that you got to do it!

Wow, I am so excited at the thought of it! Je prefer de ne pas utilizer des rubies, saphires et emeralds comme son collier... croyez-vous que Swarovski serai aussi belle? A signature piece is just too exciting!!!

I loved my dress however I knew it would just gather dust. Being a lover of fashion and having a heart for photography I wanted to create my own shoot in which I could hopefully capture frames that were a bit more editorial and edgy.
Don't worry... I saved the bodice of my gown, had it cleaned and it is now safely stowed away.

    Hi Kelli,
Great photos of the Oscar's. There was a lot of bling going on there. Such pretty dresses. I agree, sadly that Angelina Jolie did not at all look her best. It would be hard for me to pick just one gown all were lovely.

Such a great Oscar wrap-up post! Thank you! I must admit that I enjoyed this peak at Oscar fashion far more than the celebrity sites that I frequently stalk.

Your favorite dress and my favorite dress, from the evening, were the same. Penelope just could not be topped!

Kelli - love your round up. I agree Penelope Cruz looked amazing and thought all the bad press about her dress very unfair. Marion Cotillard was my other favourite of the evening - so chic with that belt wrapped around so much tulle. xv
