Do You Hold The Keys?

Good Morning!

Yesterday afternoon I decided to take a break from organizing my closet space, so I popped over to The Paris Apartment to get caught up on the latest from Claudia. I always love her posts and I am as happy as a clam that I stopped by when I did because I am not usually in blogworld on Sundays! She posted beautiful pictures of French châteaux and informed us that HGTV was airing a show called Keys to the Castle, France. I would have been very, very depressed had I missed this opportunity to indulge in my wild fantasies of living the life of a princess!

Donc, just in case you missed last night, here is a royal recap!

Château de Brissac (Val de Loire)

This gigantesque château is nicknamed "The Giant of the Loire". The castle stands 7 stories high and is the tallest in all of France. Brissac boasts over 200 rooms, 70 acres of vineyards, 145 acres of beautiful parkland, a private theatre, a 500 year old medieval kitchen, 18 chimneys and over 200 windows! There is even a portrait of Veuve Clicquot in one of the great rooms, linking this royal residence to the famous champagne house of the same name!

Château de Tennessus (About 2 hours north of Bordeaux)

This 14th century fortress has been lovingly renovated and restored during the past 18 years!
A true labor of love and dare I say, beaucoup d'argent! It is now an ultimate dream home as well as a welcoming bed and breakfast to those seeking a real medieval experience. Tennessus greets you at the foot of a functioning wood drawbridge, this castle's only entrance! It is surrounded by a moat, has 7 feet thick stone walls, a spiral staircase and breakfast delivered up to the B & B suites, on the 3rd floor, by way of the ancient hot oil drops! Experience history at its best!

Château de Canisy (Normandie)

Canisy is a gorgeous ancestral home that sits on 748 acres in Normandy. Belonging to la famille de Kergorlay since 1066, this castle overflows with antique furniture from centuries past, gorgeous tapestries and all the beauty and mystery you would expect of an abode this vieux! The château is available for overnight stays, off-site meetings or even better, your own fairytale wedding! For only $8,000, per day, you can rent the castle for your special event and the price even includes a one night stay for up to 50 people!

Château de Villandry (Val de Loire)

Built on the foundations of a medieval fortress, above the river Cher, Villandry was the last of "les grands châteaux de la Loire" to be completed in 1536. The castle was designed with a U-shaped courtyard, interesting for the times since it meant complete exposure to any outside forces or unwelcome enemies! Nowadays, the château is known worldwide for its amazing maniured gardens of all types, shapes, sizes and styles. Just the upper level of gardens is 12.5 acres alone! This château is definitely a popular one for tourists but don't let that scare you away. While there are thousands of castles to visit throughout France, a day spent on the enchanting grounds of Villandry is an unforgettable experience!

Until next time...
Dream like you have never dreamed, explore a new passion and enjoy a bit of history!

A bientôt,
Kelli

I spent a week in the Loire Valley exploring my inner-princess the summer of 1999. It was heaven on earth! I have always enjoyed history, especially European, and am a very curious soul as to what life was really like "back in the day".  Now, if only I could hold the key that unlocks the many secret doors found in each château!  I am convinced they lead to incredible and mysterious past happenings! Un jour mes amis, un jour...

Enjoying a morning at Château
Azay le Rideau
