What's in a Name?

I was reading an article the other week on what the popular trends have been for baby names this year and thought the idea would make a fun post. I have always been fascinated by the naming process: how a couple, or person, creates, lists potential names for their unborn child and then one day chooses the right one for their new bundle of joy. For me, it gives insight into the type of person or couple they may be, their heritage, their passions in life, their traditions and their personal style.

Back in the 70's, my parents were San Diego Chargers season ticket holders. Needless to say, I attended every home game in my mother's womb!  My parents had such a blast going to the games and admired the pure skill and sportsmanship of Kellen Winslow, that one day my mom leaned over to my dad and said "If our next one is a boy, let's name him Kellen." Well, obviously I am NOT a boy so instead they decided on Kelli. A great spelling spin on a very traditional Irish name.

                                                                   Kellen Winslow in action!

    I enjoyed the reason your parents chose your name and nice that they were able to keep it somewhat the "boy" name they liked. You look much better as a Kelli than a Kellen. Love your blog and look forward to it daily.

    HI Kelli! What a cute story about your name! I have no wonderful story about my name (yawn) but my husband's name is Keithen (his parents couldn't decide between Keith & Ethan). I loved your comment earlier today! You are so sweet! As for my inspiration...Paris is inspiration enough for me! Like you I lived there for a bit & like you I yearn to return daily! I miss it so much! I would move in a heartbeat if Keithen was on board! Have a great Thanksgiving!

    Happy Thanksgiving Kelli. I don't recall why my mother named me Kristie? I do know that when I was in grammer school, I went to a parochial school and for some reason they kept wanting me to spell my name like Christine. Obviously, Kristie was an unusual name back then and one they thought was spelled incorrectly. We went around and around on this issue. Ha

      Jane, thank you for your sweet comment!
      Judith, no name is boring! I love your husband's name... that is actually one of our boy name choices we have discussed in the past. {No children yet, but we do plan to be parents someday}
      Kris, I love that your name isn't everyday! It is special and it is you! Good thing you won on the name game!

      Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
