Trend Watch ~ Spring 2009
As I sit at my desk while preparing this entry for you, my dear readers, I know that I am truely blessed! Palm trees, clear blue sky and warmth, an unbelievable 80*F! I know, crazy but true! However, to be honest I like cooler weather and I want to wear my sweaters and boots! Hey, the grass is always greener, I guess...
So, I share this tidbit of weather with you, not to induce jealousy but rather to encourage you to push through the winters days {for those of you abiding in snowy, cold climates} Remember, it won't last forever and spring is coming soon... in all its colorful glory!
Introducing the latest trends for Spring 2009. Enjoy and be inspired!
***********************************
* Color Splash: Canary. I adore the color yellow and am so happy to see this mood enhancing shade splashed all over the runways for Spring 2009. Dive in to the world of rich, sophisticated yellows and have fun being bright!

Valentino Diane von Furstenberg Diane von Furstenberg
* Jewelry: Oversized hoops. Think round and embellished!
* Short shorts are back thanks to Nina Ricci and Chloé's spring lines. Skirt lengths will also be short this year.
TIP: Before you start freaking out, let's remember that it is only January. There are still 5 months to tone your stems, purchase a pair of platform heels to elongate your leg line and self tan! If you are over the age of 35, please seriously consider the length of your shorts, skirts and dresses. It is never a good idea to be {age} unappropriate for the sake of a trend. If you need to, stick with the classics and choose another spring trend to embrace rather than a short hemline.
* Dresses are still as hot as ever! The lengths to aim for are super short or maxi {full length}. Think bright colors and bold, all over prints.

Nell Couture Maxi Maggie Shift Julie Brown Maxi
* The clutch still reigns supreme this spring. I know that this trend has been around a while so feel free to continue mixing in your favorite hand-helds with your daily outfits. If you are bored with them, get crafty!
CREATIVE IDEA: Add a your favorite pin or brooch for some new-found flair.

Lanvin Salmon Clutch La Chica Chic Blue Agate Clutch Anya Hindmarch Woven Clutch
* Think fringe! Yes, it can be a little "flapper" at time but it is a beautifully fluid and feminine detail that sways with your body as your move. OH. SO. SEXY!
* Belts make their continual appearance this spring. For an instant update, fresher look and a
cinched-in waist, belt your favorite dress, blouse or blazer.
TIP: Be sure to keep the size of the belt in proportion with your stature. If you are petite, do not wear a thick corset-like belt. It will add thickness to your middle and give the appearance of chopping off a third of your height.
* Shoes get extreemely bejeweled in 2009! Some designers, such as Alber Elbaz for La Maison Lanvin, go all out and you might wonder if a pair of his stilettos belongs in a museum as a revered work of art or on your beautifully pedicured feet? Feeling like your purse strings are a little tight but want to achieve this embellished look?
CREATIVE IDEAS:
~ Use vintage clip on earrings and place them at the vamp portion of the shoe for a bit of bling and artsy fun.
~ To permanentaly change a pair of classic {and ok, sometimes boring} black heels, simply head to a craft store. Purchase you favorite Swarovski crystals and a glue gun and go for it!
~ If you can sew or even work a little magic with a needle and thread, grab some beads, feathers, and any other accoutrements that suite your fancy and hand stitch them to the back seam of the shoe and around the top rim as well as the vamp area.

Jimmy Choo Sigerson Morrison for Target Lanvin
Until next time...
Enjoy the bright, fun colors spring offers us this year! Decide to bring out the creative artist in yourself and use your jewelry and accesories in new ways! Most of all, remember that these are just trends and staying true to who you are and what looks most flattering, on you, is essential!
