Trash The Dress

Today I want to share with you another one of my passions. Photography!
I am truly a creative at heart and even more so after living 4 years in Paris. Experiencing life in a gros metropolitan is truly magical. The city overflows with rich diversity, cutting edge fashion, haute cuisine and world famous couture houses, thus proving to be mind-boggling at times yet always extremely inspirational!

Trash The Dress is a rather new concept in wedding photography. You may be asking yourself “What the heck is she talking about?” I'm telling you ladies, trash your dress, y
our wedding dress that is!!

This hot concept is finally making itself known to the general public. Trash The Dress sessions have been around for a few years but it seems as if only dedicated creatives, professional photographers and folks in the wedding planning business knew this idea existed!

I, a rather “newly-wed” myself, personally think the idea is brilliant!! Why suffocate your wedding dress in a box for the rest of its life? You are married now and have wonderful memories to cherish from your unforgettable day! And ladies, please, you know darn well that your daughter will most likely not want to wear your dress... 20-30 years from now!

Why settle for your beautiful gown be stashed away in a closet when you have the possibility of calling a local Trash The Dress
photographer for your very own session!!?? Liberate your wedding dress from being boxed up in misery and go on the photo shoot of a lifetime!

I need to mention that I am not talking about traditionally posed and sometimes rather boring wedding photos. Mais Non! This concept is all about edgy, editorial type shots. I have been so inspired since stellar make-up artist Maggie Hansen, owner of Dolled Up, told me all about the shoot she worked on in January that I decided to book very own Trash The Dress photo shoot!!  My husband and I recently had the time of our lives on our TTD shoot at Orfila Winery. Evan Bishop, of Bishop Photography, took some amazing photos.

While you are here, check out a couple of my favorite shots by Trash The Dress photographers Chelsea Nicole and San Diego’s very own
Chris Austin. I, like many brides, feel their wedding photos are pretty, but what about personality? Why doesn’t it shine through? Ladies, a TTD session is the time to show the camera who you are and what your gown is made of!

It doesn't matter if you have been married 2 days, 2 months, 2 years or 20 years, you can still trash your dress! Think grandiose and be outstandingly creative!! There are so many wonderful venues to trash your dress. A château, a pumpkin patch, a strawberry field, an apple orchard, an
old mining town, a river, the streets of Paris, London, Rome, a beach, a farm, an old train depot, Opera Garnier, a beautiful bridge in the Alps… the possibilities are truly endless!!

In case you are wondering and a little horrified by this avant-garde idea, rest well knowing that I have preserved the bodice of my dress and my tailor is finishing it off for me as we speak. It is beautifully ornate, adorned with Swarovski crystals and I am very attached to this portion of my dress.  Who knows, maybe I will re-style it into an ensemble for a formal occasion. Otherwise, it will be waiting patiently, wrapped in acid-free tissue, for my daughter. If she would like to design her own gown around the bodice of mine, I would be honored!

If you have pictures from your very own Trash the Dress shoot, please email them to me and I will be delighted to post them on my blog!

Until next time...
Embrace your inner diva, unleash your beauty and take the most amazing photos of your life!
